Year 4 Drama Showcase delivers a powerful message on plastic pollution

Young actors from Kimbolton School’s Year 4 took to the stage for a lively and thought-provoking performance of The Plastic Pearl, a pirate adventure with an important environmental message.

The play follows the antics of Captain Clingfilm and his plastic-loving crew as they sail the seas aboard their unique ship—built entirely from plastic. On the lookout for more discarded treasures, they plunder ships for bottles, bags, and baubles without a second thought for the world beneath the waves. But the sea creatures, suffering under the weight of pollution, realise something must be done. In a bid to save their home, they attempt to convince the pirates to change their ways. The question remains: will they listen? And can Captain Clingfilm really part with his beloved microbeads?

The energetic performance was packed with humour, catchy sea shanties, and colourful characters, but at its heart was an important message about sustainability and caring for the environment. Through the play, the Year 4 pupils brought attention to the growing problem of plastic pollution in our oceans, encouraging the audience to think about how we can all play a part in reducing waste.

Kimbolton School Head of Prep, Mrs Petrie, praised the young performers:

“Not only did the children put on a fantastic, high-energy performance, but they also helped to spread an important message about protecting our planet. We are incredibly proud of their enthusiasm and the way they brought this story to life.”

The production was met with enthusiastic applause from parents, staff, and fellow pupils, all of whom left with a greater appreciation for the impact of plastic on marine life.
