There was cause for celebration on the running track as Year 8 pupil Kitty K. delivered an outstanding performance at the Eastern Athletics Pentathlon in Peterborough. Competing against girls from across the region, as well as invitationals from as far afield as Hull, Sheffield and Kingston, she rose to the occasion with grit and determination.
Kitty began the day on a high, clearing 1.35m in the high jump to set a new personal best. She followed this with an excellent hurdles run, clocking 13.22 seconds – another personal record. Steady performances in the long jump and shot put, including further improvement in the latter, kept her well in contention heading into the final event.
Going into the 800m in fourth place overall, Kitty knew she needed a decisive win to secure a podium finish. Rising to the challenge, she stormed to victory, finishing more than eight seconds ahead of her nearest competitor.
Her incredible performance earned her:
- Cambridgeshire County Pentathlon Champion – Gold
- East of England Regional Champion – Silver
Reflecting on her experience, Kitty commented: “I love running and all the different events in a pentathlon, but what I’ve learned most is that confidence grows every time you try your best. The support from my coach, Kimbolton and my friends has really helped me believe I can do more than I thought.”
What’s next? Kitty is now entering the winter season, which will focus on cross country, and she will be out representing Kimbolton at many fixtures. She then heads to Portugal for pre-season track and field training during the April holidays.
A fantastic achievement – well done, Kitty!
