Kimbolton School opens the door to its Pre-School

Official opening of Pre-School attended by Deputy Lieutenant of Cambridgeshire

Kimbolton School, Cambridgeshire, officially marked the opening of its new Pre-School on 9 January 2026, celebrating an exciting new chapter in the school’s rich and distinguished history. The opening was attended by the Deputy Lieutenant of Cambridgeshire, Mrs Jennifer Crompton DL, and included the burial of a time capsule filled with items that reflect the very first cohort of pupils.

Designed for children from three years of age, the new Pre-School offers an inspiring early-years environment where curiosity is encouraged, imaginations can flourish and every child’s personal growth is nurtured. With small class sizes and specialist teaching, alongside the support of dedicated, caring staff, the Pre-School will provide young learners with a gentle and enriching introduction to school life while laying firm foundations for future learning.

Located within the beautiful grounds of Kimbolton Prep School, the Pre-School sits alongside the reception classrooms, ensuring a smooth and familiar transition into the next stage of education. All Pre-School pupils will also benefit from a secured place in Kimbolton’s reception class, offering families continuity and confidence in their child’s educational journey.

Mrs Claire Petrie, Head of the Prep School at Kimbolton, commented:

“We are incredibly proud to open our new Pre-School and welcome the youngest members of our Kimbolton community. This thoughtfully designed setting reflects our commitment to nurturing every child’s potential from the very beginning. We look forward to seeing our Pre-School pupils grow, explore and take their first exciting steps into education with us.”

Children in the Pre-School enjoy access to the school’s outstanding facilities, including the award-winning on-site swimming pool, where weekly swimming lessons will form part of the curriculum alongside music, PE, Forest School and modern foreign languages. The dedicated Forest School programme will take place in Squirrel Wood, an outdoor learning space on the school grounds where children can explore nature, develop confidence, and build new skills. A broad range of creative, physical, and academic co-curricular experiences will also be offered, each designed to stretch, challenge and inspire young minds.
