Inside Kimbolton returns with another behind-the-scenes conversation, this time shining a spotlight on the newest addition to our school community: Kimbolton Pre-School. As we prepare to welcome our very first cohort of children in January, we caught up with our new Pre-School teacher, Jess Sorensen, to learn more about her vision, her teaching philosophy, and what she’s most excited about as our youngest pupils begin their Kimbolton journey.
What are you most looking forward to with our new pupils at Kimbolton Pre-School?
I am most looking forward to getting to know all the children and supporting them as they learn and grow. It will be a joy to watch their individual characters shine in a caring, nurturing and happy environment. I am also excited to see how the Pre-School continues to flourish and expand, as it offers a wonderful opportunity with an enriched curriculum to begin their early education.
What are you most excited about this academic year?
What excites me most is getting to know each child and being part of their early learning journey. Seeing their confidence grow and celebrating their achievements, big or small, is so important. Starting a new Pre-school makes this year feel even more special. I look forward to becoming part of the Kimbolton team and working alongside passionate educators and support staff where every child feels valued and inspired to reach their full potential.
What advice would you give to a pre-school pupil just starting their Kimbolton journey?
My advice would be to smile, be kind, and enjoy every moment. Try new things, ask lots of questions, and make new friends. Most of all, be yourself – and Kimbolton will welcome you with open arms!
What do you enjoy doing outside of school?
I love spending time with my husband, friends, and family. I enjoy exploring the world and discovering new places, especially after working as a travel nanny and living abroad. I also love going on long walks, whatever the weather, in my welly boots or sunhat! I enjoy eating out, cooking, and trying new foods. And when I’m at home, there’s nothing better than snuggling up with a good book and a hot chocolate — with all the trimmings, of course.
How would you describe your approach to teaching/pastoral care/leadership?
I would describe my approach to teaching as calm, friendly, and supportive. I believe every child should be heard, valued, and treated with respect, and that a warm welcome and kind smile can make all the difference. I’ve previously led other members of staff and feel confident supporting both children and colleagues, helping everyone feel happy, confident, and ready to learn.
