The sun blazed overhead for this year’s Ingrams and Middles Sports Day, held on Monday 30 June, with temperatures soaring to a scorching 32°C. In response to the extreme heat, the schedule was thoughtfully adapted to finish by early afternoon, ensuring pupils weren’t out in the sun during peak hours.
Despite the heatwave, the atmosphere remained upbeat, with families and friends turning out in fantastic numbers to cheer from the sidelines. There was no shortage of House spirit on display, with pupils pushing themselves and encouraging one another right to the finish line.
A wide range of athletic events took place throughout the morning and early afternoon, showcasing the strength, speed and skill of our Ingrams and Middles pupils. Track events included 100m, 200m, 300m, 400m, 800m and 1500m races, alongside competitive relays that brought the track to life with energy and colour. The field events featured long jump, high jump, triple jump, discus, shot put, javelin and cricket ball throw. Our Middles and Ingrams athletes gave it their all — and in such challenging conditions, their effort and attitude were especially impressive.
Several school records were also broken on the day:
- Milly H. set a new Ingrams girls’ record in the discus, beating a mark that had stood since 2004 by more than a metre.
- Josh S. broke the Ingrams boys’ 800m record, shaving nearly a second off the previous best from 2005.
- Harrison P. bettered his own Middles boys’ 1500m record, taking an impressive eight seconds off last year’s time.
Commenting on the day, Mr Creag Lawrance, Director of Sport at Kimbolton School, said:
“The resilience shown by all of our young athletes today was exceptional. Competing in high temperatures is never easy, but our pupils rose to the challenge and supported each other brilliantly. The sense of House pride and teamwork shone through from start to finish.”
