General Healthy Revision Tips:
Ask for Help – Teachers, friends, or online resources can clarify tricky topics – don’t struggle alone. Go to help desks during term time.
Make a Realistic Timetable. Balance is key – Break subjects into manageable chunks and spread revision over the time you have considering when your exams are. Make time for hobbies, relaxation, and socialising to avoid burnout.
Take Regular Breaks – Follow the Pomodoro technique (e.g. 25 mins study, 5 mins break) to stay focused.
Prioritise Sleep – Aim for at least 7-9 hours per night; your brain needs rest to retain information.
Stay Hydrated, Eat Well and Exercise– Fuel your brain with water, fruit, nuts, and balanced meals. Exercise can refresh the brain as well as the body!
Limit Distractions – Put your phone away, use website blockers, and create a calm study space.
Stay Positive – Remind yourself of your progress and focus on what you can do, not just what’s left.
A few revision techniques to try and see which works best for you:
Active Recall – Instead of re-reading, test yourself! Cover up notes and try to recall key facts.
Past Papers & Mark Schemes – Practice under timed conditions and learn from mistakes using mark schemes.
Flashcards – Use apps or make your own. Focus on key facts, formulas, and definitions.
Mind Maps & Diagrams – Great for visual learners! Summarise topics in a clear, colourful way.
The Feynman Technique – Teach a topic to a friend or family member, in simple terms to check understanding.
Blurting – Write down everything you remember on a topic from memory, then check what you missed.
Chunking – Break information into small, linked sections for easier recall.
Pomodoro Technique – Study in short bursts (e.g. 25 mins study, 5 mins break) to maintain focus.
Interleaving – Mix subjects or topics in a session instead of focusing on just one to improve retention.
Spaced Repetition – Review topics at increasing intervals over time to strengthen memory.
Use Mnemonics & Acronyms – Make tricky info easier to remember with creative memory aids.
Recording your notes – Use your phone to record your notes so you can listen back to them.
Strong study techniques and skills make you a more capable, adaptable, and successful professional.

Focus on careers in PE and Sport
This year, lots of our have shown a real interest in careers linked to PE and sport. The sports industry is vast and continues to expand, offering a wide range of exciting opportunities beyond being just involved in sport. From coaching and physiotherapy to media, marketing, and event management, digital media, analysis, there are many roles that support all different sports.
We encourage pupils to think beyond the game itself and explore the diverse careers that make sport possible. By linking their interest in sport with subjects such as science, business, media, English and psychology, pupils can begin to build the knowledge and skills needed for a future in this dynamic and rewarding industry.
Some example jobs that involve PE or sport and other skills:
- Sports Photographer/Videographer: Capture moments from sports events for media outlets, social media, and marketing.
- Sports Science Researcher: Conduct research on athletic performance, injury prevention, or training methods.
- Sports Technology Developer: Create software, apps, or gadgets that help athletes track performance and improve skills.
- E sports coach: Coaching teams or individuals in competitive video gaming (E-sports) -game mechanics, strategy, teamwork, and even mental health management.
- Sports Marketing for virtual reality: Marketing and developing campaigns for VR experiences that let fans watch games or practice sports in an immersive way.
- Sporting goods tester: Testing and reviewing sports equipment such as shoes, gear, or clothing for manufacturers before they hit the market.

What about how AI is affecting these jobs?
- Job Creation: AI is creating new career opportunities in fields like AI programming, data analysis, machine learning, and tech integration within sports. Roles are emerging for professionals who can work at the intersection of technology and sport, making it a great time for people to upskill in AI-related fields.
- Ethical and Human Element: Coaching, leadership, and emotional intelligence—remains irreplaceable. Jobs that require direct interaction with players, teams, and fans (like coaching, team management, or community engagement) are less likely to be replaced by AI.
Volunteering, virtual work and career experiences
Getting involved in volunteering or work experience is one of the best ways to prepare for life beyond school. Not only does it give you practical, hands-on skills (like teamwork, organisation, and problem-solving), it also helps you build confidence, communication, and resilience—qualities that employers and universities are always looking for. In this workshop, pupils will learn why these experiences matter, how they can shape your future career options, and discover practical ways to find opportunities both in school and in the wider community.

“What actually is virtual work experience?”
In case you have the same question here is a brief explanation.
Virtual work experience lets pupils explore different careers online. They take part in interactive activities, hear from professionals, and complete tasks to build skills and confidence. It’s a safe and flexible way for pupils to learn about the world of work from home. These experiences are designed in collaboration with leading employers and include video content, interactive activities, and the chance to receive a certificate upon completion. They vary in length from 30 minutes to 10h on average. Sometimes they are live, but mostly On Demand.
These are a brilliant use of time for any pupils over the summer holidays! We recommend Springpod for a great range of opportunities with a wide range of companies. Older students may also be interested in The Forage, which is online work experience with large corporate companies and includes tasks and feedback within the experience.

OKs and local business partnerships with Kimbolton School
At Kimbolton, we greatly value the opportunities our pupils have to engage with professionals from a wide range of industries and careers. These interactions help pupils broaden their horizons, develop aspirations, and gain valuable insights to inform their future goals beyond Kimbolton.
We are continually working to strengthen our connections with both our Old Kimboltonians (OKs) and local employers who generously give their time to support our careers events. In 2026, for example, we will be hosting a variety of activities including speed networking, mock interviews, and enterprise days for different year groups.
Mrs Southern, our Careers Adviser, is actively involved with two local networking groups, fostering mutually supportive relationships that benefit both our pupils and the local business community.
If you are a parent who owns a local business or would like to learn more about these networking groups—and then in turn perhaps get involved in supporting our pupils—please see the information below and get in touch directly with the organisers.
THREE SHIRES Networking Group – First Wednesday of the month 10.30-13.00h

Now celebrating its tenth year, the group is a vibrant mix of talents — from a micro-baker and cathedral organist to lawyers, artists, website designers, and virtual assistants. Members range from seasoned managing directors to ambitious apprentices and undergraduates, all sharing ideas, experiences, and a passion for what they do.
